I find Kalav waiting outside the mansion for me. He meets me with a smile, and I hope he will be as happy about the prospect of ruling with me as I am that it's even possible.

"Hey," I grin at him.

"You look happy." He remarks, taking my hand in his. We walk slowly in the direction of the square with the fountain.

"I am. They're going to let me redo my announcement, and choose who is going to help me restore Purgatory."

"Well, I hope you make some good choices." He laughs a little. "Have you already decided who you're taking with you to your new kingdom?" Kal asks innocently, though I doubt he realizes that he could even potentially be one of those beings.

"I did, actually. Lucifer helped me choose. I'm going to have two."

"Do share." Kal squeezes my hand.

"Well, Heath, obviously."

"Obviously." The disdain in his voice isn't even a little hidden.

"And I chose you."

"Don't joke like that." He frowns as we stop walking. "It's not funny to me."

"I'm not joking." I look up into his eyes. "I want you to do this with me."

"Allie, no one will support you if you choose me. It's bad enough you like me." He frowns, and my heart sinks at his words. He's so confident all of the time, and he keeps my head above water, so it's difficult to hear he doesn't think he's as great as I think he is.

"What makes you think I like you?" I smile to lighten the mood.

"Hilarious." He sighs while fighting a smile that falters quickly. "You do, don't you? Like me?"

"I like you." I hold his hand a little closer to me, a little tighter. "And I want you to do this with me. Lucifer supports me, and no one will tell him no, so will you give it a chance?"

"If anyone else asked me to do this, I'd tell them they were insane, and I'd say it would never happen."

"I'm not anyone else. I'm the Queen of Purgatory, asking you to... be my king."

"Kalliope..." He looks truly torn at the idea. I hadn't expected him to have any opposition to it. I thought he would happily accept—happy to have power, happy to be with me.

I'm ready to continue arguing with him, but he smiles again and wraps his arms around me. I'm more than content to hold him close to me and inhale his scent, feel his warmth against my cheek, and hear his gentle heart beating. "I think this is a bad idea... but I can't tell you no. I'll follow you wherever you go."
